A long overdue victory–expansion of Medicaid coverage for new moms heads to Governor Parson’s desk! According to recent studies, about 75% of Missouri’s maternal deaths were preventable, meaning this step will have a massive impact on the health of babies, parents, their families and communities.
The study also stated that obtaining risk-appropriate care for complex or high-risk births remains a challenge for rural residents; and that, black maternal mortality rates are three times that of white maternal rates, therefore, this is also a vital step in addressing racial equity in health access across our state
