Senate Bill 3693 would be a step in the right direction to help address the massive corporate concentration problem in the cattle industry.
Yesterday on the Senate floor, Senator and livestock producer, Senator Jon Tester (D-Montana) spoke about his bi-partisan bill that would require meatpackers to purchase 50% of their supply on the cash market and not own cattle more than 14 days before slaughter.
Senate Bill 3693 would help combat the practice of contracting over 70% of their supply, while purchasing the remainder on the cash market, pumping up the profits of multi-national meatpackers and driving down prices for Missouri and U.S. cattle farmers.
Please call Senator Josh Hawley today at (202) 224-6154 and ask him to support Senate Bill 3693 and to support Missouri’s 50,000 cattle producers and independent family farms.
